Newfoundland often called the "Rock" is the eastern most province in Canada. The Province of Newfoundland has two distinct geographical entities the island of Newfoundland and Labrador. The island of Newfoundland is separated from the Canadian mainland by the Strait of Belle Isle in the north and by the wider Cabot Strait in the south. The mainland, Labrador, is bordered by northeastern Quebec.
The provincial capital is St. John's home of the eastern terminus of the Trans-Canada Highway (Victoria, British Columbia is the western terminus). Pitcher Plant is the provincial flower of Newfoundland and the Atlantic Puffin is the provincial bird.
